When it comes to software systems and other tools, it’s always helpful to have detailed reference documentation. Reference documentation should be process-oriented with detailed descriptions of every option. In particular, documentation should highlight any potential “gotchas”—places where processes and/or systems are more vulnerable to errors.
Good documentation is a requirement for ISO certification, but you don’t have to be on the ISO track to realize the benefits of documenting your business processes.
